Predictions

Can you predict the future accurately? If so, perhaps you should buy your ERP software from a BigCo vendor.

The BigCo vendors write a lot of software. We mean a lot. It probably adds up to millions and millions of lines of code. The problem is that millions and millions of lines of code are difficult to manage and close to impossible to change. Your business continues to change but your software doesn’t. That’s perfectly fine if you’ve accurately predicted all the functionality you’ll need over the next, say, ten years. It’s not so fine if you failed to foresee some change in your business or your industry.

At Lawson, we try to keep things simple. First, we don’t try to solve every problem for every industry in one set of code. Second, we use advanced tools like the Landmark Application Designer. Landmark can reduce the amount of code in an application by a factor of ten. That means we can build applications more quickly and at lower cost. Fewer lines of code typically means higher quality as well. It also means that the application is easier to modify as your needs change. You get a better application that’s also more flexible.

You’ve probably heard us say that simpler is better. One of the benefits of simplicity is greater flexibility. As a result, we’re the vendor to call when uncertainty is certain.

As its name implies, The Lawson Opinionizer offers opinions. We believe we've got our facts straight but we don't guarantee it. A new Opinionizer appears every Monday. If you have an opinion, send an e-mail to Opinionizer@lawson.com
